Chiefs, Bay of Plenty and Maori All Blacks back Sean Wainui was killed in a car accident in Omanawa close to Tauranga early on Monday morning.
Bay of Plenty Police from the Bay of Plenty released an announcement this morning that one person died in an accident involving a single vehicle at McLaren Falls Park.
Police were informed that a car been crashing into a tree approximately 7:50 am. A family member has confirmed to NZME that father, 25, Wainui drove the car.
The sole person inside the vehicle passed away on the spot. Police from the Serious Crash Unit attended the sceneand investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.

Wainui was signed by the Chiefs in the year 2018 and played in 44 games with Hamilton’s Super Rugby franchise, having previously played for the Crusaders.
