Longtime major league shortstop Julio Lugo has died at 45, ESPN’s Enrique Rojas reported Monday. Rojas wrote on Twitter that Lugo passed away “presumably due to a heart attack,”
Lugo had some great years early in his career with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and wound up a World Series champion with the Red Sox in 2007. A lot of us remember some of the highlights, and tracking his moves through baseball as a quality defensive shortstop who didn’t strike out, who moved around a bit, and was on some great teams.
